An independent registered charity group of Oando Plc has awarded scholarships to 255 less-privileged children nationwide as part of its activities to promote the future of the young ones through education and empowerment.
This was disclosed by the Director of the foundation, Ms Tokunboh Durosaro at the Civic Centre in Lagos.
Commenting on the launch, she said, “basic education is one of the potent tools for reducing poverty and inequality in modern societies.
“We believe that intervening in the provision of quality education is critical to laying the foundation for the sustainable growth and development of the country”.
Durosaro stressed further that beneficiaries will be selected from Oando adopted primary schools throughout Nigeria while it would sponsor 10 outstanding primary school pupils from each of the adopted schools through secondary and tertiary education on an annual basis.
The director maintained that the programme would cover the tuition, sundry expenses such as transportation and study materials amongst others.Scholarship
In line with addressing the challenges in the Nigerian education sector, the Oando foundation, in partnership with the government at various levels made a pledge to increase access and improve the overall quality of education across the country through its Adopt-A-School Initiative (AASI). The foundation also plans to adopt 100 schools by 2015 which will directly affect over 100,000 children.
