Kano Govt. Offers Scholarship To 100 Students

The Kano State Government has offered automatic scholarship to 100 indigent students who secured admission into Crescent University, Abeokuta in Ogun.

Gov Rabi’u Kwankwaso disclosed this during a send-off party organised for the students by the State Government at the Government House, in Kano on Wednesday.

Kwankwaso said the State Government would spend N56 million annually to sponsor the students who secured admission into the university recently.

According to him, the State Government will spend N560, 000 on each of the students per annum.

He said his administration would continue to pay serious attention to education for its citizens to earn university degrees and for them to be exposed and capable of fitting into ‘the Nigeria of today, tomorrow and beyond’.

“Since we are the most populous state, we have to create opportunities for our people to acquire education. This will launch Kano State further into the league of progressive states,” he said.

He stressed that “if the state did not pay attention to education, its children will continue to roam the streets as beggars”.

He, therefore, challenged Kano citizens not to relent in embracing education so that the growth and development of the state would be accelerated.

He said another set of 100 students would soon be awarded scholarships to study courses of their choice at Bells University, also in Abeokuta.

“These students will be fully sponsored by the government to ensure that their studies do not go into a hitch.”

He advised them not to misuse the opportunity by engaging in acts capable of denting their individual images and that of the state.

“While we shall continue to sponsor students, all we require is for you to be our good ambassadors. You must behave well as good citizens of Kano.”

Some of the students who spoke on behalf of their colleagues thanked the State Government for the gesture.
