About Scholarship

The Peace Academy is financed primarily through students’ tuition fees. However, as some students cannot afford the full tuition fee, the board of the Peace Academy has decided to offer five partial scholarships every year. As non-profit charitable organization the Peace Academy depends on contributions from public and private donors.

For 2012 World Peace Academy – WPA offers a number of scholarships granting a 50% reduction in tuition. These scholarships are dedicated for students from developing countries and crisis areas.

Scholarship Type: Masters Scholarship

Eligibility

-A first university degree (bachelors or equivalent) is required, or equivalent professional experience

-Applicants should have good knowledge of English both written and oral. Expected is a level of English that is usually acquired by studying for at least one year in an English speaking country

-Scholarships will be sought to invite participants from crisis and conflict areas.

To be worthy of consideration for such a scholarship the applicant has to meet the academic requirements and be able to bear the costs of CHF 7,500 (2013: 9,000) for the other 50% of the tuition fees as well as the costs of living and housing (approximately CHF 15,000) during the nine months in Basel.

Applicants who have been chosen to receive one of the WPA scholarships will have two weeks to activate this scholarship by paying the rest of the tuition fee of CHF 7,500 (2013: 9,000). After the mentioned deadline the entitlement for the scholarship expires and may be passed to another applicant.

Applications are processed continuously. Qualified applicants are admitted as long as space remains. Those who require a visa should apply at least 3 months in advance, to allow sufficient time for their visa applications to be processed.

Send a copy of your electronic application with your signature together with all the other documents, preferably by e-mail as scanned copies, or else as photocopies by airmail to the following address:

You will be notified when your application has been received within one week of its arrival.
You will be notified if you have been accepted or not within one month of notification of receipt
If you have been accepted you will receive instructions concerning the payment.
Once your down-payment has been received, you will be sent an official letter of admission with which you can apply for a visa if necessary.

Required documents

Application Form – Complete with clear and full answers ;
Curriculum Vitae (CV) – Mention your education with degrees, field, date, institution and country, as well as work experiences with function, title, short job description and date. Include volunteer work or other experiences you consider to be relevant to your application ;
Motivation Essay – Explain why you apply, as well as how and where you wish to apply this knowledge after completion of your studies (200 – 300 words) ;
Referees – Indicate the names of at least two referees with updated e-mail and telephone number, which should be both in your Application Form and your CV. NO reference letters ;
Diploma and Transcripts of Grades – Photocopies or scanned copies of bachelor’s diploma or equivalent, and photocopies or scanned copies of transcripts with English (unofficial) translation if they are in other languages. NO originals ;
Photo – Preferably scan of the passport page with your photo.
